Race-Boot Upper

  • The lightweight Feroza Elite is manufactured in split-suede and full-grain cowhide with a full Armortex flame retardant lining.
  • The strips, Velcro strap, outside wear protector and rear heel area above the rubber heel are made of full-grain cowhide. As with any quality leather shoe, leather softens up by wearing. Therefore it is recommended that drivers wear the race-boots as much as possible ahead of competition.
  • The single Velcro ankle strap ensures a personalised, comfortable fit.

Race-Boot Sole

  • The low profile sole is manufactured in oil resistant and fire retardant rubber.
  • The rubber for the sole from the mid to front of the shoe is of a harder compound to provide better wear life and structural support for the foot after a period of prolonged pedal work. The sole warms and softens up during use.
  • The sole construction from the mid to front is designed to help dissipate the heat conducted to the pedals whilst the foot is protected by a fire resistant membrane. (In a recent Australian Super V8 race sensors were placed on the pedals of a number of competing vehicles and registered temperatures of up to 90 c). We have samples of products manufactured by competitors where the sole has melted and peeled away from the upper in such conditions.
  • The sole is not manufactured to be perfectly flat. The reasons are as follows:
Numerous textile manufacturers experienced in the production of race wear are now having contract footwear companies making race-boots on their behalf. During this time these manufacturers sought the input from drivers who (we have been informed) have said that the sole should be completely flat and consequently most race boots do not have an instep.
adidas are world experts in the manufacture of performance sports shoes including race-boots. adidas foot technicians looked at drivers competing in many racing series wearing completely flat shoes. Following observation and consultation with leading drivers adidas foot specialists discovered drivers were finding discomfort in the area of the Achilles tendons due to the absence of a proper instep. The adidas Feroza Elite has been designed with an instep to eliminate this problem.
  • The sole is of a narrow construction to afford the foot maximum space in the confined pedal /pedal box area. Incidentally the sole dimensions for the Feroza Elite are taken from the world famous adidas Monza race boot.
  • The asymmetric heel chassis for precise pedal action supports a high grip asymmetric heel cup for optimal heel/foot positioning.
  • The rubber used in the asymmetric heel chassis is softer then on the forward sole area of the shoe. The reason being the softer rubber used in the heel affords better grip for optimal heel/foot positioning. The grip on the heel of the shoe extends to the side to assist with this process.
